God’s Great Desire – By Evangelist Allen Domelle
Isaiah 64:7
“And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.”
As a boy, I remember having the sincere desire for God to do something through my life. I regularly listened to the type of preaching that motivated me to do something great for the LORD. It was a common occurrence for me to walk in the hills behind our church begging God to do something with my life. My heart’s desire since I was a child to this day is for God to use me because I have desired not to be like everyone else, but to be a vessel He uses to show His power through and to bring glory to His name.
This is what the LORD wanted from His people Israel. The verse above states, “…there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us…” God desired for someone out of Israel to have a heart to call on the LORD. He desired for someone to be like Jacob who said, “…I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.” (Genesis 32:26) God desired for someone to be so desirous of Him that they would wrestle with Him until they received His blessing. God desired for someone in Israel to be like Moses when he prayed, “…If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.” (Exodus 33:15) God’s great desire is for someone to want Him more than life.
Christian, when is the last time you called on the name of the LORD? I’m afraid too often that we get so busy with the affairs of our day that we don’t take the time to call on the LORD for His presence in our lives. God says in Jeremiah 33:3, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” The only reason God doesn’t do mighty things is because we don’t have the faith to trust Him, nor have we called on Him to do “mighty things.” Every mighty work in the past has always been preceded by prayer. How can you expect God to do mighty works through your life when you are not spending time calling on Him? It is sad that it would ever be said, “…there is none that calleth upon thy name…”
Moreover, when is the last time you wrestled with God to do something great in your life? There are many Christians who pray every day, but there are very few who have the heart’s desire to wrestle with God until He blesses them with His power. My friend, don’t let the naysayers of our day who say that the great works of God are in the past keep you
from wrestling with God to do mighty works through your life. Every generation needs someone to want God to do something through them more than anything else. You will never see the great works of God in your life until you desire those works more than you desire life.
The verse above shows us the reason a Christian would not have these desires in their heart. God says that it is “because of our iniquities” that we don’t call on Him with the desire for Him to do something mighty through us. Always remember that sin dampers the spiritual desires for God to do great works in our life. Sin dampers those desires because of the shame it leaves with the Christian making them feel that God would never want to use them. Christian, God desires for you to call on Him and to take hold of Him and to never let go. Let me challenge you to remove whatever sin in hampering your desires, and start begging God to do mighty works through your life for His name’s sake.
